I don't get to see my father often enough. He lives a couple of hours from my home. And despite the fact that he's in his seventies and has had a heart attack and multiple hip replacement operations, he's still the hardest working man I know. He currently has a part-time job and a side business.
He's always worked hard. I can't remember him having less than two jobs at a time when I was growing up. And they often weren't the kind of jobs most people would want to do. But they put a roof over our heads and food on the table, so he got up every morning and went to work.
Somehow though, despite working long hours, he made time for us kids and for family vacations. I have many happy memories of my childhood, and many of those were in his presence. He was a great dad to us and a great husband to my mom, who died in 1987. Now he's a great granddad to my three kids and a great husband to my stepmother, Kay, who I love.
Happy Father's Day, Dad. I love you.
