6 Ways to Make Money Quickly!

Sometimes you need money quickly - like yesterday.  As a single mom raising three daughters, I've been there.  So what are some ways you can make some quick cash in a hurry?  Here are 6 ways to make money fast!

1. Yard Sale (It's one of the quickest ways to make fast cash.  You don't even necessarily have to advertise.  Just throw a sign up on the corner utility pole, and you're in business.

2. Sell your old stuff on Ebay or Craigslist.  (Choose the Buy it Now option on Ebay, and you can sell it nearly instantly.  Craigslist is pretty quick also.)

3. Pawn something.  (Desperate times call for desperate measures.)

4. Sell your china to Replacements Ltd.  I live within a couple of hours of their headquarters, and I've made a couple of trips.

5. Rent out a room in your house.  (If you have a seperate entrance, this can be a great option.  I have friends who are doing this right now, and it can really make a difference.)

6. Sell your used books to a used book store.  Box them and take them around from store to store.  You'll start with a full box, but likely end up with an empty one.  Nonfiction sells best.

Work at Home Moms: Are You Downsizing?

As the last of my kids head off to school a little over a year from now, I look forward to downsizing, particularly in the area of housing.  I can easily half my rent once my kids are in college, and I can't wait.  My car is paid for (though it's a 20-year old Volvo, so all bets are off on how long it lasts).  And though I really think I'll be able to do away with cable in the future, my Internet is a must-have, not only for my job, but also for entertainment.

Downsizing can mean some much needed relief during this hard economic time.  My Dollar Plan has a great article on the subject.  It's Should We Downsize?  Have a look.  If you've recently downsized, drop a comment and share how you've cut your basic cost of living.

How to Improve Your Credit Score: 4 Basics

With the economy sucking wind, it's more important now than ever to protect and build your credit.  Do you know your credit score?  If not, MyFico.com offers a free trial with two free credit scores and credit reports.  Once you have a baseline, you'll be able to see if your efforts at building credit are working.  There are four basic things that you can do to improve your ranking with the credit reporting agencies:

1. Make your payments on time.  This is the most important thing you can do to improve your credit rating.  Negative marks stay on your credit for seven years.

2. Keep your outstanding debt ratio low.  If you are maxed out on credit, your first goal should be to stop charging and pay your debt down.

3. Keep old accounts open.  It's not necessarily better to close old credit accounts, because length of credit history is a factor in determining your score.

4. Don't apply for every credit offer that comes your way.  Too many applications for credit can hurt your score and make you seem money-desperate.

*I am in no way affiliated with MyFico.com.

Save Money: Plan Cheap, Easy Meals in Advance

I've been making a real effort to cook more at home lately.  I know it's better for the girls, and it's generally much less expensive than eating takeout.  But I find if I don't already have something quick and easy to make in the fridge or cabinet when I have a stressful workday, then it's too easy to just run out and grab something or order pizza.

The Simple Dollar has a simply wonderful article on preparing inexpensive, healthy meals.  It's chock full of tips on preparing ahead, so that you don't get overwhelmed at the last moment and resort to Mickey D's.  Check it out!  It's "Nine Tactics for Making Healthy, Incredibly Simple, and Cheap Meals for You and Your Family."

Dr. Seuss 100th Anniversary and Snow Cream

Tomorrow is the 100th anniversary of Dr. Seuss's birthday!  Visit I Love Dr. Seuss and print free Dr. Seuss coloring pages for the kids.  Read a Dr. Seuss book.  My favorite is Horton Hears a Who.  Finally, visit the official Seussentennial site.

They're saying it might snow here tomorrow.  If you've got snow, treat your kids to some Snow Cream.  It's one of my favorite memories of childhood winters.

Work-at-Home Customer Support Home Shopping Network

I found this really neat article at TampaBay.com about people working from home for the Home Shopping Network.  I think you have to train for three weeks in the Tampa Bay area.  But according to the article at TampaBay.com, they hire in three states.  Here's the article: Like Customers, HSN Call Center Employees Get to Stay Home.

Then I did some digging around and came up with this employment page on their site. You have to click on "Open Positions Search Engine" at the bottom of the page.  Then click "I agree."  Then you can use the Home Shopping Network's employment search engine.  Just enter the search term "customer."  I typed in location: Florida, entry level, part-time, and high school diploma, and the work-at-home customer support position came right up.  I also read they hire in Tennessee.
