I found out yesterday I'm going to get an actual vacation this year. We're going to the beach in August, and I'm really excited. I've felt really burnt out lately. My kids tell me I'm repeating things, and I'm sure it's true.
I've also noticed that when I don't get enough relaxation and me-time, I get into more arguments with my teens. I'm more easily drawn into petty battles, which is definitely something to avoid, because with adolescents, you really have to pick your battles.
And then this morning, I ran across this enlightening article in the Raleigh News and Observer by Susan Calahan, Anne Nolan, and Katrin Schumann entitled Mothers Need Time-Outs Too. It noted that according to an ABC News poll, 52% of mothers say they "suffer from parental guilt - mostly because they worry they don't spend enough time with their kids."
While guilt's not my problem - my kids probably get too much Mom - I think the article makes a great point relevant for all of us: even moms need to take a time-out from time-to-time. Read the article and let me know what you think. Do you regularly schedule time for yourself? Or, like me, do your desires and needs frequently get lost in the shuffle of raising kids?
