About.com Seeking Health Writers in a Variety of Areas

 

About.com, a subsidiary of The New York Times, is seeking health writers in a variety of areas, including: asthma, chronic pain, colon cancer, dental care, ENT, muscular dystrophy, podiatry, schizophrenia, and urology.  To be a health guide for About.com, you need to be either a doctor who works directly with patients or a nurse or health educator with extensive experience in the field. 

You'll be responsible for writing and maintaining a blog that covers such topics as how the condition is diagnosed, how to work with a doctor or specialist, and the treatment options available.  You'll also be responsible for acting as a community leader in a discussion forum. 

All About.com writers are freelancers and set their own schedules.  This allows many to work around a full-time job.  Compensation is based on page views.  However, all guides, in their first two years, make a minimum of $725 per month.  The average guide makes $1,000 per month.  To learn more and to apply, visit the About.com Be a Guide page.  Good luck!
