I remember when I first became a mother 20 (yes, that's 20) years ago, I was surprised at how competitive some mothers could be about their children. I had a particular friend (and I use that term loosely) who was more than willing to make me feel like a bad parent. Her kids would never do that, whatever that was - throwing a fit at the mall, biting a sibling, etc.
When you're a young mom with your first child, it's easy to let someone like that pound you into the dirt. You're filled with self-doubt to start with. Maybe your friend's right, you think. Maybe my child is headed straight for a life of crime. Maybe I should start measuring for that prison jumpsuit now.
And it's oh so easy to get sucked into the competitive mindset, one-upping each other with your children's accomplishments, bashing each other behind closed doors. Don't do it! Here's an article written by Dr. Robi Ludwig that will help you when dealing with a particularly competitive mom. It's 5 Tips to Handle Competitive Moms.
Now go out there and support another mom!
