Working at home has its benefits. You don't have to worry about what you look like. You save money on gas, which is no small matter these days. And if you have children, you're able to be more available to them in most cases.
But it can be terribly lonely staring at a computer screen all day. At lunchtime, as you eat your peanut butter and jelly sandwich at your desk, there's no one to share a laugh with, no one with whom to share your complaints.
But that may be changing. I've been reading a lot lately about a new trend amongst people who work from home. They're forming social networks online, then making plans to meet for lunch or coffee out in the real world.
Erin O'Neill at Error Ink has written an interesting article about this new trend. Check it out.
